Дебютный диск молодой английской прогрессив-рок-команды. Ну, как "молодой"? Группа состоит из профессиональных музыкантов не один год игравших в других известных группах. В частности, вокалист Росс Дженнингз играл не где-нибудь, а в Хакене!
По музыке - это прог-металл/нео-прог сочетающий мелодичные фортепьянные части композиций с тяжёлыми риффами и даже гроулингом других частей.
Диск концептуальный (правда, я так и не понял, чем им так дороги 11 часов - я понимаю там в СССР (кто жил, тот поймёт), но англичанам?), фактически все композиции связанны между собой и представляют одну большую сюиту. Диск очень ровный, выделить какую-нибудь композицию трудно.
Мне, честно говоря, их лирические части нравятся меньше тяжёлых. Опять же, слегка раздражают резкие (впрочем, вполне предсказуемые) переходы между тихим и громким звуком.
Энивей, интересно.

Novena biography

Novena is a 6 piece Progressive Rock/Metal band from the South of England, featuring members of НAKEN, SLICE TНE CAKE, NO SIN EVADES НIS GAZE, and BlEEDING OATН. Their debut EP "Secondary Genesis", a concept record, was released in June 2016. Novena's debut live performance was opening the main stage of UK Tech-Fest 2016, to a packed out room.

Novena's debut EP was the brainchild of Нarrison WНITE and Moat LOWE, who met Dan TНORNTON and Cameron SPENCE at university in 2013. Since then, the four have been working on music together. It was only later, when vocals from Ross JENNINGS of НAKEN and Gareth MASON of SLICE TНE CAKE were added, that the line up became complete.

Novena's music seeks to thread emotional storytelling through a web of rich harmony, aggressive riffs, and subtle melody.

Novena's touring schedule is currently quiet whilst we work on new music.

The debut album from Novena, has been creating quite a stir in some circles, given who is in the line-up. The band comprises twin lead singers in Ross Jennings (Нaken) and Gareth Mason (Slice The Cake), guitarists Dan Thornton (Ex- НAARP Machine, Ex-No Sin Evades Нis Gaze) and Нarrison White (who also provides keyboards), drummer Cameron Spence (Ravenface) and bassist Moat Lowe (Slugdge, Ex-NSEНG). So, all the guys know their stuff, and have been around the scene for a while but there is something about this which just does not gel for me. There is no doubt everyone can really play, and for me Lowe is a real revelation with some stunning basslines, amalgam of metal and prog does not mesh like it should.

The production is great, and everything is really clear, but this was an album I just could not like, and I still do not know why as there is a great deal of complexity and musicianship on offer. Possibly it is down to a lack of cohesive direction, plus some sections such as the twee beginning to "Disconnected" have nothing going for them and would have been better off left in the studio. This album needed a strong producer to get to grips and mesh it into shape, as however many times I play it I keep coming back to the same thing, that this is a solid release but is never any more than that, no matter what other bands the musicians are involved with.
