Залит MotherUpduff/(2019)_Tales_Of_Tangle_(201318)

Playing an earnest and dynamic fusion of classic soul, post-punk monotony, and psychedelic noise, Mother Upduff is a quartet hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Band Members
Mat Wainright, Erik Mulder, Eirik Нutchinson, Jeff Collins

Mother Upduff started as a two-piece in 2013 with drummer Mat Wainright and singer/guitarist Jeff Collins after playing together in the now disbanded Black Cat Trail. Alongside the premiere of their live performances, Mother Upduff released their first single “Grave Robbers” b/w “Transient” in 2013 becoming a growing attraction in Vancouver and launching online interest as they continued to release music independently through Bandcamp. After “The Captive” in 2013, the following year yielded diverse singles “Tempest” & “Mud/Paced”, all of which have been used internationally in film projects from brands including Subrosa, Desillusion Magazine, Black Revolver Skateboards, and featured in the film “Pallasseum - Unsichtbare Stadt” as part of the 66th Annual Berlin Film Festival. After experimenting with their lineup throughout 2015, the following year was met with Mother Upduff’s 7″ release, “Passerby” b/w “Fire” on the independent Pennsylvania label, 852 Records. 2016 continued with the addition of moog/bassist Erik Mulder which ushered a sonic expansion that burgeoned further with each performance. Following the May 2016 release of “Vigilance Committee”, the band focused their efforts towards the fall 2016 offering of their EP, “The Decay”, which debuted the combined writing styles of all 3 members.

After a year hiatus in 2017, Mother Upduff rang in 2018 by joining the Nasoni Records family to release a vinyl compilation of their complete works to-date. The double LP was released in fall 2018 on the Berlin based label. Mother Upduff is currently back in full form writing and recording with past / present members : Eirik Нutchinson on bass, Erik Mulder on guitar, Mat Wainright on drums, and Jeff Collins continuing on guitar and vocals.

We are excited to present our first 5 years of recordings, not as a compilation of singles but as one cohesive full-length album.

When Nasoni Records approached us with the concept of a collection, my knee-jerk reaction was to drag all the files in the "Mother Upduff Masters" folder and send away. After a few scrupulous listens however, I felt it wouldn't hurt to adjust the levels between each song before remastering for the vinyl. Backwards it spiraled from there. A few months later we have 20 tracks ( 19 on vinyl ) completely remixed and remastered to map a progression within an album rather than an era. To obtain an audible common ground : some songs were cleaned and decluttered whereas others were crowded and muddied, room mics were turned up, takes were swapped, entire instrument sections were muted / unmuted, and the tape bias ran hot on the master.

Alongside each single comes 3 unreleased songs from an unheard but fruitful period when Eirik Нutchinson joined Mat and I for the first time. Before Erik Mulder brought his skills to our last recordings, Eirik Нutchinson played a huge part in taking our sound out of the two-piece rut. That first season of sonic expansion can now be heard in Transient ( Electric ), The Rover, and Mexico. Contrary to the track placement of our 4th unreleased song, The Priestess was actually our last tune recorded before a brief hiatus.

Now with past and present members playing together, Mother Upduff is continuing with a philosophy that mirrors the construction of this album. Each track was dissected and altered according to it's relationship towards the rest, similar to how we have always played for each other first, the individual second, and those listening last.
