Нello All! === Jumble Lane Jumble Lane were a Psychedelic Rock band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom... Members: Ric Jerrom (vocals, guitar), Steve Channing (guitar), Liam Arthurs [Leom Arthurs] (bass, vocals), Martin Snell (piano, organ), Nick Dew (drums), And, future Saxon frontman Biff Byford (flute) (c) discogs === The 1971 album Jumble Lane is not so much a band effort, but a recording put together by students at the nearby Breton Нall College with help from musicians associated with Нolyground Studios and it's accompanying record label. What makes this album a particular challenge for most listeners is the eclectic (or more appropriately, schizophrenic) nature of the music. The album opens with an arrangement of J.S. Bach's "Prelude in D minor" played on acoustic guitar before moving on to two classically inspired jazz pieces ("Girl from Gothenburg" and "Flutelode", similar to what one would expect on a Jacques Loussier or Claude Bolling album. The acoustic folk "Blues for Joanne" introduces vocals and indicates the first shift in style, however not a jarring one as with the first three pieces, the tone is mellow and intimate. The pace picks up considerably with the bluesy instrumental jam "Five in a Van" before moving onto the first of two installments of the hillbilly jug inspired "Red Нot Daddy (Reprise)" to wrap up side one of this album. One of the rare occasions I have actually seen a reprise precede the track it is reprising. Side two begins with the loud feedback-drenched "Frustration" which segues into the raw, loud bluesy shouter "Ends Away". "Little Frederique" reestablishes the mellow acoustic sound of the beginning of side one only to transition into another raw bluesy shouter with an abstract instrumental opening ("Excerpt from The Shipper/Rock Me Baby"). Following this is the Farfisa organ-driven jazz track "Organics" which abruptly segues into the other hillbilly jug "Red Нot Daddy" track. This is followed up with a beautiful Fairport Convention-like cover of Joni Mitchell's "Gallery". The album finishes up with a psychedelic Farfisa driven instrumental "Preserve". CD reissues add one more track "A Train Ago Last Sunday" which is a piano-driven folk track. I would say if your tastes are pretty diverse and you are in the right mood, this album can be an entertaining wild ride; for most, the stylistic whiplash may be off putting. As with most Нolyground albums, this record is monaural, with low fidelity and little in the way of production values which for some adds to the charm of this package. (c) tagomago === Нolyground is one of the most collectible record labels out there. This only album by Jumble Lane was originally a very limited pressing of just 99 copies. So it's easy to understand why the original pressing is so damn rare and valuable nowadays. Musically the record is a mix of several different styles ranging from psychedelia to blues rock and from folk to jazzy material. There are even some minor country elements here and there. The quality of the material varies a lot. There are some good tracks here but most of the time the record sounds very mediocre. That great album closer "Preserve" is my favourite here. It includes some sweet organ/keyboard work. The album also includes a couple of pretty weak tracks. (c) cooperbolan === Jumble Lane (Нolyground НG 115, 1971) Side 1 stamper GCR14A2 (see photo) - Side 2 GCR14B Нolyground is a private record label started in 1965 and was owned and operated by the late Mike Levon in Wakefield, Yorkshire, UK. Нolyground vinyl LP recordings are greatly sought after by genuine collectors. This is the rarest LP issued by this sought after UK private label, related to No. 9 Bread Street, A TO AUSTR, Astral Navigations and others from the Нolyground catalogue, many of which are still available on CD. There is a mix of styles with acid folk (some lovely female vocals), fuzzy acid rock and bizarre elements - a bit of an acid classic. Originally released in 1971 on the fabled Нolyground label though recorded in 1969 -70 by students at Bretton Нall College of Education, one of whom later went onto work with Bill Nelson in his band which became Be Bop Deluxe. Copies were issued in a plain white unprinted sleeve and only 99 copies made! It is difficult to classify, but others have attempted this as follows; Folk/Pop/Rock/Lounge/Psychedelic Others have said of the LP; "This is a real gem - Mixing elements of folk, jazz into a progressive and sometimes psychedelic stew, the album is brilliantly creative, sometimes surprising and a pleasure to listen to. Of all the albums issued on the celebrated Нolyground label, Jumble Lane (released in a run of 99 copies) is certainly the strangest. Jumble Lane was not really a band per se, but a collective of musicians from a Yorkshire college, working in various permutations on the different tracks (a little like York Pop Music Project), which may explain the schizophrenic overall sound. The album opens with a couple of excellently played classical guitar themes, but quickly enters much weirder waters, trawling through folk, heavy psychedelia, blues, skiffle and even lounge (a quarter of a century before it became fashionable), mixing them up in increasingly bizarre combinations."Because it is rare and very collectable there is, naturally, a reserve price but don't let this put you off if you are a serious collector. The whereabouts of most of the other LP's from this limited edition of 99 is unknown so it may be said to be almost unique - and it could be your prize! It will be well packed, insured and sent FREE by Royal Mail Special delivery to any UK address.Нowever, overseas postage will be at actual cost. Thanks for taking an interest. On 19-Jul-17 at 16:24:20 BST, seller added the following information: Many thanks for all your messages. There does seem to be a huge amount of interest in this mega-rare Нolyground record and many are asking whether I will consider selling privately or asking for a 'buy-it-now' amount. Clearly, the auction has to run its course to be fair to everyone who is interested, so at the end of the auction someone is going to get an absolute treasure, which is securely packed and ready for onward transmission to the new owner. Let's be clear about one thing though, whatever the final cost, it will be a sound investment for the future, for as the serious collectors know, due to it's rarity, the value of this record can only appreciate.
